Robert Gordon "Bob" Breuer, 76, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born in Burlington, Iowa, on September 12, 1949, to Glen “Sonny” Breuer and Dorothy “Dot” Linden Breuer. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1968 and later attended Southeastern Community College, where he studied in the automotive trade program.
Bob met his future wife, Kathy Kay Wallace, at a single Christians’ ski weekend in Welch Village, Minnesota, in January 1978. They were married on November 25, 1978, at Faith Baptist Church in Washington, Iowa, and celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary this year.
Bob retired from General Electric in 2007 after 33 years of dedicated service. During retirement, he continued working part-time in grounds maintenance for the Danville and Burlington School Districts. Bob loved the outdoors, spending time at the Breuer family river lot, and boating on the Mississippi River. His pontoon boat was affectionately known as “The Brew Crew.”
An avid sports fan, Bob enjoyed golfing, playing slow-pitch softball, coaching his children’s sports teams, and watching all sports. He was especially devoted to his Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers. On fall Friday nights, Bob could often be found at Bracewell Stadium cheering on the Greyhounds. He also faithfully attended Burlington High School girls’ and boys’ basketball games and never missed a Southeastern Community College basketball game.
Bob also loved the beach, especially family vacations to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
A man of deep faith, Bob loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of West Avenue Baptist Church. He prayed daily for his family and friends, and for others to come to know the Lord.
Bob’s greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathy; his children Jennifer (Kyle) Breuer-Harej of Yorkville, Illinois; Christopher (Nikki) Breuer of Burlington, Iowa; and Elizabeth (Mitch) King of Iowa City, Iowa. Bob was a proud grandfather and was blessed with five grandchildren, with one more on the way: Cambridge and Kingsley Harej, Shea Breuer, and Monroe and Sawyer King, with baby boy King due in April 2026. Coming from a large family, Bob played a meaningful role in the lives of many nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to him as “Funcle Bob.”
Bob was a fun-loving, easygoing man with a contagious smile. He had the gift of conversation and could strike up a chat with anyone. He genuinely cared about people and loved connecting with them. Bob will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill; his sisters, Judy and Karen; and his daughter-in-law, Nikki.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 22nd at West Avenue Baptist Church where the family will receive friends.
The celebration of life for Bob will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 23rd at West Avenue Baptist Church. Cremation will be accorded following the services.
Memorials have been established at West Avenue Baptist Church, the Burlington High School Booster Club, and the Hospice House.
