Terry L. Kemp, 83, of Burlington, Iowa, died Monday, May 4, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born on January 20, 1943, in Decorah, Illinois, he was the son of Robert and Betty Reynolds Kemp.
Terry was a United States Army veteran. He worked for Deery Brothers for twelve years in the detail shop and then worked for Burlington Produce in sales for fifteen years. Terry was a car enthusiast. He enjoyed reading, working on, detailing, reminiscing, driving, you name it, he loved it about cars. He enjoyed watching sports, especially March Madness, mushroom hunting, and was an avid reader. Terry loved to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the news or chatting with friends. His top priority was his family and spending time with them.
He is survived by his companion Linda Hanson; five children: Terry (Jessica) Kemp of Quincy, Illinois, Deborah Kemp of Burlington, John Vernoy of Burlington, Stacy (Gabe) Steele of West Point, Iowa, and Michaela Hanson of Burlington; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers: Donald Kemp of Sperry, Iowa, Michael Kemp of Burlington, and Robert (Enida) Kemp of Temple, Texas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Bonnie Garmoe and two sister’s in-law: Faye Kemp and Penny Kemp.
Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.
The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will be conducting military rites at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at Lunning Chapel. The visitation for Terry will be held at 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
