Marjorie Lucille “Marge”Allender, 85, of West Burlington died Thursday, June 22, 2023, at home surrounded by family.

Born Nov. 25, 1937, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles and Dorothy Heuer Crowner.

On September 14, 1957, she married Robert “Bob” Allender at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Chapel.

She was a student at West Burlington Arnold Schools and worked as a nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital while attending Burlington Beauty Academy, graduating in 1955. Being a self-employed cosmetologist for 58 years was her favorite job, holding her license for a total of 60 years. She served her community as a Girl Scout leader and Sunday School teacher for many years and, being of Methodist faith, was a lifetime member of West Burlington United Methodist Church.

A member of “The Crafty Seven,” she had a great creative mind, with quilting being one of her favorite hobbies. She made many quilts, including Quilts of Valor and won awards for her beautiful craftsmanship. She was an excellent gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. She cherished making memories with her husband, motorcycling through most of the U.S. and attending sprint car races with her family. Mostly, she simply loved spending time with her husband and family.

Marge is survived by her husband Bob; two daughters, Kim (Ken) McLaughlin of Mediapolis, Krista (Mike) Roberson of West Burlington; Chris Buhmeyer (Terry Allender) of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Jesse Wagler, Clare (Chad) Powelson, Sara (Denny) Robinson, Emma Allender, Taylor (John) Rodriguez, Colette Guzman, Robert (Claire) Roberson; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Karen (Mike) Bergren, Becky (Dave) Patrick; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Terry Allender; sisters, Lois Swieter, Donna Koons and Linda Dillon.

A family graveside service will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice
