Josephine Fageol, 92, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Dec. 13, 1931, in Oskaloosa. She was the daughter of John and Mary Walling Hamilton. On April 23, 1960, she married Elmer D. Fageol in Kahoka, Mo. She was previously married to Marion Dean Nichols on March 7, 1953 in Oskaloosa. They were later divorced.
Josephine attended Iowa Wesleyan College, where she received her bachelor's degree in art and education. After college, she became an art teacher at Wapello High School.
Josephine loved her family first and foremost. She enjoyed cooking and baking with and for family, dancing, and swimming. and arts and crafts. Her favorite TV program was Dancing with the Stars. When her children were younger she was a Boy Scout leader and was known to make costumes for various troop members.
Survivors include daughters, Mary (Tom) Bowen of Yarmouth, Gigi (Tony) Robertson of Burlington, Kelly (Ron Lafferty) Fageol of Burlington; son, Jim Fageol of Stronghurst, Ill.; sister Mary Anne Hesling of Des Moines; grandchildren, Christopher, Jenny, Rob, Anika, Derrick, Zachary, Michael, Elyse, Makaila, Ryan, Alexandrea; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Chris Nichols; one grandchild, Tabatha Smith; and two sisters, Jean Chapman and Beth Hamilton.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The visitation and memorial service for Mrs. Fageol will be announced at a future date.
