Bernice A. Nicholson, 84, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born on Nov. 23, 1940, in Sutter, Ill., she was the daughter of Albert and Mattie Hardy Scheuermann. On Sept. 25, 1960, she married Jerry Nicholson and they later divorced. Of that union, they had two children Scott and Jeni.

Bernice was a 1958 graduate of Carthage High School and was highly involved with Future Homemakers of America and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill. She worked for Champion Spark Plug for ten years and Exide Battery Factory for twenty years, where she retired from. She was a member of TOPS and RSVP volunteer group. Bernice loved serving others and enjoyed delivering meals for Meals on Wheels. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, painting, wood carving and anything that consisted of arts and crafts. Bernice loved to be out every spring planting her beloved garden and later loved to be in the kitchen canning vegetables. Most of all Bernice loved nothing more than to be with her family.

She is survived by her two children: Scott (Jackie) Nicholson of Newton, and Jeni Daly of Burlington; four grandchildren: Dugan Thye, Mazie Daly, Jordan and Jake Veatch; sister Dorothy “Dot” Krasuski of Burlington, and sisters in-law: Carlene Scheuermann and Ellen Scheuermann. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and two grand-dogs: Bella and Nora.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Lawrence, Raymond, Wilbur and Ronald Scheuermann.

The funeral service for Bernice will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Nate Todd officiating. A one-hour visitation will be held prior to the service at 5 p.m. at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends.
