
Ansel Shannon, 88, of Burlington, died Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Addington Place in Burlington.
Born October 1, 1938, in Bethel Township, Illinois, he was the son of Ernest and Abigail McCormick Shannon. On July 6, 1958, he married the love of his life, Patricia Darlene Phillips, in Woodlawn Baptist Church in Burlington. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2021.
Ansel worked at the Army Ammunition Plant for 30 years.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and found joy in wood whittling and other hands-on activities. He was an avid bowler and passed his love of the sport down three generations. He was especially proud of being Papa to Fallon. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.
Survivors include his son, Michael Shannon of Denmark; five grandchildren, Bryan (Kristina) Selters of Lawrence, KS, Anthony Drake Selters of Burlington, Garret Selters of Burlington, Kaitlyn Shannon of Burlington, Bryce Shannon of Burlington; one great-grandchild, Fallon Shannon of Burlington; two brothers, Stanley Shannon of Alexis, IL and Dyson (Leona) Shannon of East Galesburg, IL; and sister, MaryAlice Reeves of Alexis, IL.
Besides his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Linda Selters and Diana Shannon, two brothers and three sisters.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The funeral service for Mr. Shannon will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, with Pastor Brad Moore officiating. Private family burial will be held in Cox Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Burlington Area USBC.
