Larry "Swede" Johnson of West Burlington died Dec. 6, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Larry Richard Johnson was born on April 18, 1940, to Richard "Dick" Johnson and Viola "Titter" Boline Johnson in Burlington. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1958. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962 and was on the USS Marshall. He married Janet Leah Faris on Dec. 20, 1959.

Swede worked at US Gypsum, Simpson Paper, and Mount Pleasant Warehouse. He then went to work and retired from his favorite job at US Lock & Dam 18. He also drove cars for Deery Brothers for 15 years.

Swede was a member of The Eagles, The Moose, and a lifetime member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Carrie Havlik, Julie Daniels, and Cindy Moser, all of Burlington; sister, Mary Brown of West Burlington; two granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters.

There will be no services at this time; a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. 

Memorials have been established with the Hospice House, Des Moines County Humane Society, and NICU of Iowa City.
