Henry “Joe” Kimmel, 88, of Burlington, died Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.
Born Oct. 26, 1935, in Van Buren County, Iowa, he was the son of Henry L. and Rena S. Kimmel. He was a 1954 graduate of Burlington High School.
He married Sandra “Sandy” Russell on May 18, 1958, in Burlington.
Joe worked for Coca-Cola for over 30 years until the warehouse left Burlington. He then began working for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for another 12 years.
He was a member of Spring Grove United Methodist Church. His greatest love was his family and his wife. He was a “computer geek” and loved everything about computers, taking care of his yard and was always willing to lend a hand to help people.
Survivors include his wife Sandra “Sandy” Kimmel; two children, Jeff (Sandy) Kimmel and Tammy (Ron) Wunderlich; one grandson Bobby (Kate) Kimmel; three sisters, Florence White, Lois Swank and Barbie Siefken; one brother Lonnie Kimmel and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Don Rinaberger, George Kimmel and David Kimmel and two sisters, Betty Mae Meade and Mary Lou Haynes.
The graveside service and inurnment for Mr. Kimmel will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Spring Grove United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
According to his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
