William “Bill” Forrester

William “Bill” Forrester, 79, of Oquawka, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Bill was born June 6, 1942, in Dekalb, Ill. He was the son of Allen Ray and Evelyn Kelley Forrester. On Sept. 11, 1965, Bill married Gwendolyn “Gwen” Casey.

Bill started in the workforce as a garbage collector. After being injured on the job, he later became a long-distance truck driver until his retirement.

Bill enjoyed working in the garage, working in the yard, watching westerns, and going to yard sales with his grandkids.

Survivors include his three daughters, Nicol "Nikki" (Tony) Rettig of Burlington, Sonia "Cissy" Forrester Hainds of Oquawka, and Billie Jean (Carmella Farrell) Forrester of Chicago; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Tim Forrester of New Albany, Ind.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife; three brothers, David Forrester, Terry Forrester, and Dennis Forrester; and two sisters, Shirley Forrester Lawson and Mary Forrester Murphy.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m with the family to receive friends at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home. 

The memorial service for Mr. Forrester will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Masonic Lodge following the service. The Masonic Lodge is an alcohol-free venue.
