Shirley C. Mundt, 89, of Burlington died Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Jan. 29, 1933, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Paul and Ella Duff Schmitz.
Shirley graduated from Burlington High School with the class of 1951. On Dec. 8, 1950, she married William R. Mundt in Burlington. He preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 2012.
Shirley was a 71-year member of Bethany Lutheran church where she participated in various church activities. Her greatest joy was sewing for her family. She sewed quilts, clothing, holiday projects and cross-stitched. Shirley also enjoyed shopping, antiquing, and maintaining a well-decorated home. She was a dedicated Cubs fan, staying up to watch every game of the 2016 World Series.
Shirley was primarily a homemaker and also worked part-time at the family business, Mundt Piano and Organ.
Survivors include two daughters Karla (Richard Keith) Mundt of Burlington and Kathy Shriver of Bettendorf; one son William G. Mundt of Burlington; five grandchildren Cameo, Sara, Rob, Audrey, and Danny; two step-great-grandchildren Scott, Steve; six great-grandchildren Andrew, T.J. Carlee, Fisher, Harper, Sawyer; sister Carol Sprock of Stronghurst, Ill.; sister-in-law Molly Schmitz of Burlington and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband William; grandson Carl; son-in-law Bob Shriver; four brothers Paul, Kenny, Bill, and Dick; and beloved dogs Missy and Katie.
The service for Shirley will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26 at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Pete Hagglund officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25 at Lunning Chapel.
Memorials have been established for Bethany Lutheran Church and Des Moines County Community Foundation.
