John C. Ferguson Jr., 70, of Burlington, Iowa, died Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Azria Health Prairie Ridge Nursing Home in Mediapolis, Iowa.
Born on January 21, 1956, in Georgia, he was the son of John C. and Iva E. (Ernest) Ferguson Sr. On February 4, 1978, in Burlington, Iowa, he married Roberta S. Bragg.
John was a 1974 graduate of Burlington High School and was a member of First United Church of Christ in Burlington. He worked for 38 years at Shearers from 1981-2019 until his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers. Whenever he was given the opportunity to spend time with his family, he did. His family was his pride and joy, especially his grandchildren. Let us not forget to mention his favorite cat, Francis, whom he loved dearly, but others thought differently.
He is survived by his wife Roberta, two children: John (Samantha) Ferguson III and Jennifer Schmidt all of Burlington; four grandchildren: Dawson, Bentley, and Emberly Ferguson and Lilly Schmidt. Also surviving is one nephew Chris Colvin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Gordon, and the cat Francis.
Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.
The visitation for John will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
