
John "Jack" A. Schuldt, 90, of Burlington, died Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Addington Place in Burlington.
John Adam Schuldt was born on November 5, 1935, in Wagner, South Dakota, the son of Louis Edward and Sylvia Lillian (Stedronksy) Schuldt. Jack graduated from Wagner Community High School in 1954. He served with the South Dakota National Guard before going on to graduate from Dakota Wesleyan University in 1958 and from the University of Southern California in 1960 where he received his degree in physical therapy. Jack was united in marriage to Maxine Novak on June 19, 1956, in Wagner, South Dakota.
Jack played football throughout high school and went on to play at Dakota Wesleyan. Jack worked in construction as a young adult before transitioning to physical therapy. Jack was a physical therapist for 9 years at Wahpeton Rehabilitation Center in North Dakota, before moving to Burlington and managing the Managed Rehabilitation Unit at the old Klein Center. He then worked for 38 years at Burlington Medical Center. Jack was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous boards and committees. He was also a member of the Varatis Class Young Couples Club, Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge, Elks Club, and Burlington JC's. Jack served on the board at Southeast Iowa Community College as well. Over the years, Jack has enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing Pinochle and Bridge. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
Jack is survived by his wife, Maxine, of Burlington; children, Debra Nafziger of Wever, Tamara (Rick) Venenga of Waterloo, and John (Janice) Schuldt of Burlington; grandchildren, Kristen (Rusty) Brookhiser, Matthew Hill, Hannah Schuldt, and Jaden Schuldt; and great -grandchildren, Kaitlynn (John) Walter, Hunter and Ryder Brookhiser.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, LaVonne.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. A memorial service for Jack will conclude the visitation at 11:00 AM with Reverend Tamara Wirt officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the service.
Memorial contributions are suggested to either Grace United Methodist Church or the Des Moines County Humane Society.
