Former Danville High School and current Iowa Wesleyan University runner  Lilly Garnsey picked up a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in the Rittgers Invitational hosted by Coe College in Cedar Rapids on April 7.

Upper Iowa University’s Ashley Donovan won the steeplechase in 12:21.0, and Garnsey came in at 12:51.97. Coe’s Kandice Kittinger took third in 13:03.54. Garnsey’s time broke her own school record.

At the St. Ambrose University Tune-up indoor meet in February, Garnsey was second in the 800-meter run. Her time of 2:34.51 was a lean and .01 of a second behind the winner, Southeastern Community College’s Cassidy Yaley. Garnsey’s time was the seventh fastest in Iowa Wesleyan history.

Iowa Wesleyan’s Quintynn Alexander, a sophomore from Burlington, finished seventh in the 100-meter dash (11.78 seconds) at the Rittgers Invitational. Cody Welch, a freshman from Danville, finished seventh in the 400 dash in 5 2.66 and eighth in the javelin with a toss of 115 feet, three inches.
