Betty Jean Dewein, 98, of West Point, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 17, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

Born on April 27, 1927, in Cairo, Iowa, she was the daughter of Charles T. and Effie M. Nelson McCune. On Feb. 22, 1947, at Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington, she married William G. Dewein. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2010.

Betty was a graduate of Sperry High School, was a homemaker, and helped her husband on the farm. She enjoyed canning, working in the garden, sewing, tending to her chickens, small animals, and her dogs.

Survivors include, one nephew, Kenneth (Dieu) McCune of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, one niece, Nancy Harvey of Colorado Springs, Colorado; great nieces and nephews, including David Roe of Muscatine; several cousins and special friends Kevin and Laurie Riddle of Denmark, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, niece Sandra Roe, and nephew Joe Harvey.

The funeral service for Betty Jean Dewein will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, at the Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. David Mixon officiating, and interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Memorials have been established for P.A.W.S. of Ft. Madison and the Denmark Rescue Squad.
