
Monica "Mouse" Mesler, 85, of West Burlington, died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Danville Care Center in Danville.
Born May 3, 1937, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Louis B. and Charlotte Hagerty Meyer. On August 9, 1958, she married James P. Mesler in Burlington.
She was a 1955 graduate of Burlington Catholic High School.
Monica worked as a Des Moines County Court Reporter and at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in the Security office. With her husband, she was the co-owner of Mesler Supply Inc. for over 40 years. They also owned and operated the Carhartt Store.
She was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church and a member of St. Mary's Altar and Rosary. She was on the West Burlington Planning and Zoning Board for over 26 years. She assisted her husband in the founding of the Iowa Trappers Association. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and helping others. She loved wintering in Las Vegas.
Survivors include husband, James P. Mesler of West Burlington; four children, Ann Marie Kirk of Burlington, Jean Elizabeth (Leon) Helling of Ankeny, Thomas James (Deborah) Mesler of Rome, Pa., and Patrick Joseph (Anna) Mesler of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Janette Kirk-Yenchko, Eric (Natasha Knutson) Rahn, Jana (Timothy) Rahn-Kilfoy, Nathaniel (Kristina) Poli, Brooke Poli, Summer Mesler, Lily Mesler, Breana (Michael) Williams-Hawkins, and Gage Mesler; and eight great-grandchildren Evelyn, Claire and Logan Yenchko, Luca Rahn, Kaden Kilfoy, and Avery, Sydney and James DeWayne "J.D." Hawkins; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish-SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington.
The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Monica will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, at Divine Mercy Parish-SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Fr. James Flattery as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, West Burlington. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the St. Mary's Cafeteria following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, West Burlington Police Department, and West Burlington Fire Department.
