
Eugene Wilson “Buster” “Buzz” Smothers Jr., 67, of Burlington died Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at his home.
Born, September 3, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of Eugene Wilson Smothers Sr. and Marion Louise Bridgeman Smothers Sargent.
Eugene graduated from Burlington High School and took welding classes at Southeastern Community College. He served with the Iowa National Guard. He married Kenna Ryner and they later divorced.
Eugene was a welder at Coppes-Murray, Grain Belt Equipment, Ceco Building Systems, and Nunnikhoven Mold Company. He had a green thumb and enjoyed growing Cactus and houseplants. He also liked cars.
Survivors include his children Quinton Smothers of Burlington and Deanne (Matt) Saddoris of New Windsor, Ill.; grandchildren Aleecia Saddoris, Conner Corman, Illiana Saddoris, Oden Hill, and Bryson Saddoris; siblings Wenona Lightner of Kansas City, Mo., Alva (Dennis) Anderson of Burlington, Allyn Smothers of Burlington, Roy (Kris) Smothers of Burlington; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Roberta Dochterman, and Brother Daniel Smothers.
Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
