Richard Tiemeyer

Richard Wayne Tiemeyer, 86, of Fort Madison, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at the Donnellson Health Care Center.

Born Sept. 16, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of Delbert Charles and Stella Louise Kubisch Tiemeyer. In 1962, he married Elizabeth Ann Brown in St. Louis, Mo. They later divorced.

Richard was a child psychologist and family therapist for 44 years.

He was a 1953 graduate from Burlington High School. He received his associate degree from Burlington College in 1955. He graduated with honors from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in 1957; and he was also elected into the Phi Beta Kappa honorary fraternity. He then went on to receive a master's degree in psychology from the University of Iowa in 1958. He did additional graduate level work at the University of Iowa and Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. 

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He was a past state president of the Iowa Mental Health Counselors Association. He was also the resident commissioner of the Low Rent Housing Authority of the city of Burlington. He was a member of RSVP and on the RSVP Advisory Board, AARP, Operation Restore Trust of Iowa and active in the Democratic Party. 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh-Thielen Crematory.

The graveside committal service for Mr. Tiemeyer will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Hope Haven Area Development Center.
