Thomas Arthur Russell, 88, of Burlington, surrounded by his loving family, passed away from cancer at home at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.

Tom was born on April 3, 1933, in Holly Grove, Ark., the son of John Christian and Mable Ione Brent Russell. Tom graduated from Burlington High School in 1952 and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, during the Korean War.

Tom was employed by Champion Spark Plug in Burlington for 33 years and retired from the company in 1992. Tom loved to work outdoors, hunt, fish, and tell stories to his family and friends. Tom also enjoyed serving his community and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Burlington.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sandy, and his two sons – Kevin, his wife Karen, and Michael. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Jennifer Ohler, Michelle Russell, and Carter Russell, and one great-granddaughter, Zoey Ohler. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Dirth of Burlington and Kay West of Mt. Vernon. Tom is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ora Faye Cole; and four brothers, Melvin, Dean, Robert, and Donald Russell.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health and Hospice and Special Needs Foundation, both in Burlington.

Friends may call from 1 until 5 p.m. Thursday, March 10 at Lunning Chapel. A private family funeral service will be held on Friday, March 11 at Lunning Chapel. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment will be held in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
