Joe W. Royer, 84, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 11, 1938, he was the son of Everett Lee and Mable Mullikin Royer. He graduated from Fairfield High School and Southeastern Community College Auto Body Program. Joe was a medic in the United States Army stationed at Fort Sam Houston. He married Carol Joan Welch on Dec. 13, 1964, in Blandinsville, Ill.

Joe had various jobs over the years. Since 1980 he was the owner and operator of Royer Body Shop. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. He enjoyed country and western music and watching TV including western movies. He loved road trips especially Branson, car races, and auto shows. Each year he looked forward to attending the Old Threshers Reunion in Mount. Pleasant and the Mullikin family reunion. He loved to visit with family and friends and invite them to, “come back for a visit”!

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Burlington, two sons Dan (Laura) Royer and Tim (Tamatha) Royer both of Burlington; seven grandchildren Victoria, Emily, Chase, JordAnn, James, Daniele, and Joey; five great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Brandyn, Bentley, Khayos, Lucas and two on the way; sister-in-law Marjorie Royer of West Burlington, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Cynthia Jean Lee; grandson Micah Taylor; seven brothers and two sisters.

The funeral service for Mr. Royer will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23 at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Mark Royer officiating. Family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service. Military rites will be performed by the Burlington Area Veteran’s Honor Guard. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery

A memorial for Oak Street Baptist Church has been established.
