Lela
C. Tull of Burlington died Jan. 7, 2022, at her residence.
Born
Feb. 24, 1939, in Burlington, she was the daughter of James Raymond
and Lela Maude Kimbrough Helmick. She married William L. Tull on
Sept. 2, 1962, in Burlington. Her husband died in April 20, 1999.
Mrs. Tull lived in Burlington until 1974 when she moved to Amarillo,
Texas, where she lived until returning to Burlington in 2002. She
graduated from Burlington High School and attended Amarillo College and
Lippert’s Court Reporting School in Plainview, Texas. She worked as a
secretary for Drake Hardware Company, Mason & Hanger-Silas Mason
Corporation, and for the Atomic Energy Commission in Burlington. She
worked in various administrative positions for the U.S. Bureau of
Reclamation in Amarillo retiring in 1990 and in an administrative
position for the Amarillo Elks Lodge No. 928.
Mrs. Tull was a member of First Christian Church in Burlington. She
was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 84; Women of the Moose Lodge No.
587, and Eagles Ladies Auxiliary No. 150.
Survivors include sisters-in-law, Kim Helmick and Sue Helmick of
Burlington and Debbie Helmick of Washington and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Tull
and Raymond Tull of Donnellson and Bradley Soule of Muscatine.
Funeral services for Lela Tull will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Jan.
10 at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. Visitation will be from noon
until the time of service. Inurnment will be at Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison at a later date with a Celebration of Life.
A memorial has been established to the Des Moines County Humane Society.
