Birgit Brissey, 63, of West Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born Sept. 13, 1960, in Frankenthal, Germany, she was the daughter of Anneliese Schmitt Weiler. She came to the United States when she was two years old.
Birgit was a Paralegal for Des Moines County for 27 years until her retirement in 2023.
She loved traveling to the beach and sea turtles. She was a sports fanatic, and loved watching all sports and most importantly her grandsons’ activities. She enjoyed playing darts, and participated in many dart leagues along with her friend Skeeter.
She is survived by her two daughters; Heather (Brandon) Rich and Danielle (Darien) Brissey; grandsons, Jason, Kai, Cohen and Oziyah; aunt Ruth Hoffman and cousin Brent (Sarah) Maxwell and their children Brenden and Michaela.
She was preceded in death by her mother Anneliese and aunt Inge Nickel.
The memorial funeral service for Birgit will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Lunning Chapel. The family requests all who attend wear bright colored clothing.
A memorial has been established for the Sea Turtle Conservation Fund.
According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
