
Richard J. Heyland, 73, of Wever, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Born July 12, 1951, in Burlington, he was the son of Frank Heyland and Barbara Mackie. Rick married Ila Yoder on June 18, 1971, in Burlington.
He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, enlisting during his senior year of high school and serving from 1969 until 1971.
Rick worked as an Electrician for Burlington Northern and was a union rep for IBEW, eventually serving as Vice General Chairman. He also loved farming.
Rick will be remembered for his wit and humor, as well as his many stories that brought laughter and joy to those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Ila Heyland; his brothers, Michael, Steve, and John; and his children, Julie Holmes and husband Toby, Jodi Elliott and husband Michael, Jaime DuBard and husband Michael, and Jonathan Heyland and wife Lindsey. He was a proud Papa to 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Heyland; and his mother, Barbara Mackie.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Visitation with the family to receive friends will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025 at Burlington Baptist Church, 1225 Hagemann Avenue.
The memorial service for Rick will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at Burlington Baptist Church with Pastor Kendall Adams and Richard's son-in-law, Pastor Michael DuBard officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate his life.
