Vickie Sue Steward, 77, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at home with her family by her side. She was born on October 14, 1949, in Burlington, the daughter of Lawrence and Vera Bell. She attended Corse School, Horace Mann, and Burlington High School.
On December 4, 1965, Vickie married the love of her life, Edgar “Eddie” Steward and together they built an amazing life of love, family, and fun for over sixty years.
Vickie worked at Hall’s Cafe, Bowl-Inn Lanes, and as a nurse’s aide at Burlington Hospital. Most of her working career; however, was spent at Winegard Company, where she gave 42 years of her life. She began on the solder assembly line and moved up to warehouse clerk, then warehouse supervisor, and finished her career in inventory control.
She was a member of the Eagles Women’s Auxiliary 150.
As a child, Vickie could be found at her parent’s cabin in the Green Bay Bottoms, fishing, baiting trout lines, and frog hunting. Many platters of food were served to all at the cabin as everyone was welcome. She enjoyed playing pool, bowling, cards, bingo, and golf, country dancing, and an occasional slot machine. She loved bass fishing with her husband and their car rides to wherever the road would take them. Vickie liked to cook and bake, and nothing made her happier than having family at home. She treasured time at the couple’s winter home in sunny Sebring, Florida.
Vickie is survived by her husband, Edgar “Eddie” Steward; daughter Cheryl (Robert) Dobbins; son Michael (Kara) Steward; five grandchildren, Chayce Steward, Brandon Paduano, Chandler Steward, Megan Wirtjes, and Rylie Paduano; one great-granddaughter, Hadleigh Armstrong; her sister, Joann Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harry and Lulu Bell and Horace and Blanche Cook, her parents, Lawrence and Vera Bell, her sister, Sharon Phillips, her brothers, Robert Bell and Terry Bell, and her niece and nephews, Darsi Hodgkin, Steve Morrison, and Mark Bell.
Prior to her passing, Vickie expressed her gratitude “to the staff at Southeastern Iowa Regional Medical Center, Dr. Hannah Heckart, and Dr. Fei and her team at the Iowa City Cancer Center who took the best care of her.” Vickie’s family would also like to thank the caring Home Health & Hospice team who made her final days one of comfort and peace.
