Betty E. Swafford, 78, of Burlington, died Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born May 7, 1945, in Atascadero, Calif., she was the daughter of John Everett and Ines Velma McKelvey Brown. 

Betty worked for Champion Spark Plug and retired after 31 years of service.

Betty was a very active member and officer of the UAW, Local 1237. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Naples, Fla. to visit her daughter. She was her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's biggest cheerleader, never missing their sporting or school events. Betty loved gardening and watching her hummingbirds, going to the movies and theater, reading, going out to eat, and visiting with her friends whom she called family.

Survivors include son, Jeff (Lisa) Sisco of Mediapolis, daughter, Jeanette Sisco of Naples, Fla., daughter, Denice (David) Ertz of Burlington, grandchildren, Melissa (Justin) Kramer, Bryan (Audra) Spears, Sarah Roed, Lydia (Zach) Gatton, Samantha (Davis) Lowenberg, Jesse Ertz, Shannon (Jordan) Mohr and Kelli (Jacob) Scheitlin, 13 great-grandchildren, brother, Terry (Eileen) Brown of Calif., sister, Carol (Ron Jacobs) Brown of Denver, Colo., sister, Norma Jean Bonifay of Kalona, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Darcy Rae Sisco; one great-grandson; and two nieces and one nephew.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The memorial service for Betty will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, with The Rev. Wally Reynolds officiating.  

Memorials have been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
