David "Pete" Peterson, 93, of Burlington, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Jan. 8, 1931, in Iowa, he was the son of Leonard and Dorothy Lansford Peterson. On Nov. 7, 1953, he married Judith Croskery in Fort Madison.
He was a graduate of Burlington High School.
David worked as a cable splicer with the telephone company for 35 years.
He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving his country in the Korean War from Jan. 17, 1951 until Jan. 26, 1954.
David was an avid hunter. When he wasn't hunting, you could find him enjoying his farm or fishing for catfish. He was a talented artist and a great carpenter. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin on the river that he built himself. He was a fan of Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Peterson; two daughters, Catherine (Thomas) Rowe and Cynthia (Gary) McCloskey; one son, Kurt Peterson; seven grandchildren, Laura Rowe, Matt Rowe, Sara Mullen, Michelle Jeffries, Brad McCloskey, Kyle McCloskey, and Brittany Reynolds; 10 great-grandchildren plus two on the way; one sister, Shirley Slover; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Services for Mr. Peterson will be at a later date.
