Newton "Newt" Colburn, Jr., 98, of Burlington, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born June 8, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of Newton Colburn, Sr. and Frances Anderson Colburn. He married Betty Candelet on July 19, 1947. They celebrated 74 years of marriage together. 

Newt graduated from Dobbins Vocational School in Philadelphia, Pa. 

He was employed by IRC/TRW as a mechanical engineer with over 50 years of service to the company.

Newt was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the 760th Field Artillery Battalion. He served in New Guinea, the Philippines, and was with the first troops to occupy Japan after the surrender. He served many years in the Honor Guard at military funerals.

He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, serving on the Vestry and Property Committee for many years.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The memorial service for Newt will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 at Christ Episcopal Church with Fr. Carl Mann officiating. Family will greet friends at the church prior to the service. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Private family burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Christ Episcopal Church.
