
John Edward Tanner, 83, of LaHarpe, Illinois, formerly of Niota, Illinois, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025, at his home.
John was born January 30, 1942 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of John Ernest and Leona Inez (Turner) Tanner.
Mr. Tanner was a graduate of Dallas City High School. He worked as Iron Worker with the Local 577 for many years. Later, he was employed with Fruehauf Inc. in Ft. Madison, where he retired from as a Supervisor. John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, mushrooming and was an avid knife collector.
Survivors include four children: Johanna Bradford of Hamilton, Illinois, Tracey Bryant of Dallas City, John Joe Tanner of Dallas City and Libby Tanner of North Liberty; twelve grandchildren: Cody Fitz, Michael Bradford, Dylan Bryant, Danyale Bryant, Kyle Tanner, Kelsey Haddix, Tyler Tanner, Aidyn Meyer, Dakota Vaughan, Dalton Vaughan and Chase Vaughan; 10 great-grandchildren and three sisters: Sally (Butch) Partin of Winchester, Tennessee, Pam (David) Carpenter of LaHarpe and Natalie (Jim) Perry of Effingham, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter: Nikki Vaughan.
The funeral service for John will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. Burial will follow in Appanoose Cemetery, near Niota.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
