Susan L. Philpott, 74, of Burlington, Iowa, died Monday, May 26, 2025, at her home. Born on Dec. 8, 1950, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Eugene and Frances Cronk Gallagher. On June 2, 1968, in Burlington, she married the love of her life Rick Philpott. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2025. Together they shared 56 years of marriage.
Sue loved the Lord and dedicated her life to serving him. She enjoyed music, playing cards especially Shanghi Rummy and collecting dishes (Manhattan glassware was her favorite). She loved traveling to the Amana Colonies, Galena and other places in hopes to find additional pieces to add to her Manhattan collection. During their travels she and Rick would enjoy stopping for German food. Every year she would find the most perfect Christmas ornaments to hang on the tree and to share with others. Most of all she loved nothing more than being with her family.
She is survived by her three children: Christy (Fran) Torri of Grove City, Ohio, Jason (Jessie) Philpott of Burlington and Kendra (Eric) Crawford of West Burlington; four grandchildren: Patrick and Alexandria Smith and Jacob and Joshua Philpott; one great-grandson Caleb Smith. Also surviving are four sisters: Jean Bollander, Delores Sattler, Linda Allely and Mary Fanning, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rick; four sisters: Julie Gallagher in infancy, Sandra Bonnesen, Doris Ghrist and Joyce Hester.
The funeral service for Sue will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Lunning Chapel with Jeremy Bonnesen and Pastor Dan Dingus officiating. A one-hour visitation will be held prior to the service at 11 a.m. at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends. Interment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her memory for the West Burlington Community School District, Falcon Food Pantry.
