Gilbert L. Leath, Sr., 95, of Galesburg, Ill. passed away at 12:40 p.m. March 8 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg,
Ill.

Gilbert was born on Sept. 19, 1926, in Macon, Mo., the son of James Everett and Vurgil Shafer Leath. He was raised in
Macon where he attended local rural schools.

Gilbert married Mary Ellen Abbott on July 31, 1948, in Cameron, Ill. and she preceded
him in death on Sept. 28, 2007.

Gilbert first was a section laborer for the C.B. & Q Railroad for 18 years. Later, he then was employed by Admiral Corporation for 24 years as a lift truck operator and numerous other work responsibilities.

He attended First Christian Church of Monmouth for many years and enjoyed country music, but most of all loved his family and their affairs.

Surviving Gilbert is his son, Gilbert L. Leath, Jr. and Connie of Galesburg, Ill. and six
grandchildren, Tammy Jones, Shelly Smith, Missy Jones, Nickey Leath, Mandy Leath, and Justin Leath. There are ten great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, also surviving. One sister survives, Margie Borkey of Monmouth, Ill., and two brothers, Fred Leath of Monmouth,
Ill. and James (Edna) Leath of Cameron, Ill.

Gilbert is preceded in his death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ellen; one daughter, Mary Kay Jones; three brothers and five sisters.

A funeral service for Gilbert is planned on Monday, March 14 at
11:00 a.m. at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Ill. Interment
will be in the Silent Home Cemetery of Cameron, Ill. His family
plans visitation and will receive their friends at Turnbull Funeral Home
on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
