Virginia Arlene "Ginny" (Feldman) Murphy, 92, of Burlington, died Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the Danville Care Center.

Born November 29, 1929, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward Carl and Ruth Victoria Distlehorst Feldman. On August 6, 1950, she married Lawrence H. Murphy in Burlington. He died on January 28, 1991. She then spent the next 28 years with her special friend, John Kindig, until his death on June 20, 2020.

Ginny graduated from Sperry High School in 1948 and one of the highlights of her senior year was playing in the state basketball tournament with six of her classmates.  

She started work at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and then helped her husband on their farm for 40 years. She also worked for Johnston's Truckstop in Mediapolis, The Eagle Gift Shop, which was a part of Balbort Beverage, then receptionist for the Neighborhood Center, Geode R.C.& D., and the YMCA. She was a well-known greeter at Walmart for 15 years and retired at the age of 86. 

Ginny was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she was also a member of the Sarah Circle and served on the Alter Guild. She helped with the bake sales, where her peach cream pie and streusel coffee cakes were quite favored. She was most recently a member of West Hill Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, and the Eagles Club. She loved music, could play the piano by ear and loved to dance. Ginny enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her family. Her favorite concerts were George Strait, Wayne Newton, and Michael Buble'.

Survivors include her son, Steven Douglas (Lisa) Murphy of Burlington; daughter, Victoria "Vicki" Lynn (Kevin) Beckman of Burlington; honorary daughter, Sue Dixon of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Shannon (Chase) Murphy of Williams Bay, Wis., Brenna Murphy of Burlington, Brennan Murphy of Cedar Rapids, and Rachel, Aiden, Charlotte "Charli" and Kaden Murphy all of Burlington; four great-grandchildren, Rihanna and Aaliyah Campbell, Isabella "Ella" and Americus "Mac" DeLuca.

Besides her husband, Lawrence Murphy, and special friend, John Kindig, she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Diana Kay Murphy, and three sisters, Viola Brockert, Bernice Wainwright, and Lorraine Dannenberger.

Family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, September 24, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Murphy will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 24, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Tamara Wirt officiating. Burial will be held in Burlington Memorial Park. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.
