Jeanette "Jan" Roberts, 71, of Burlington, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington with her family by her side.
Born May 1, 1953, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of David E. and Wilma L. Colvin St. Clair. Jan met Gary Roberts at Hannibal LaGrange in 1973. The rest was history after meeting in history class. On July 12, 1975, they were wed in Kahoka, Mo.
She was a 1971 graduate of Clark County High School in Kahoka, Mo. She obtained an Associate Degree from Hannibal LaGrange and a Bachelor's degree from Truman State University.
Jan was a teacher in Council Bluffs and Oakville/Wapello for around 7 years before the birth of her children, after which she became a full-time mother.
Jan was a member of Harmony Bible Church and she volunteered for Hetta Gilbert. Jan LOVED all things flowers & gardening. Sharing her knowledge of flowers brought her happiness. She loved her family fiercely. Playing games, cookie day, making Gamma's famous vegetable soup and spoiling her grand babies was her life.
Jan was famous for her chocolate chip cookies. She baked them for all occasions, even shipping them to family friends across the US. She was also a huge supporter of the SCC Blackhawks basketball team and hosted several international players that have become lifelong friends.
Survivors include husband, Gary Roberts of Burlington; two daughters, Megan (Alan) Kleinkopf of Middletown and Elizabeth (Justin) Long of Burlington; and four grandchildren, Brooke and Ayden Long and Gracelyn and Cade Kleinkopf.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The funeral service for Jan will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Pastor Danny Dingus officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
