Daniel Mendez, age 60, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, at his home.

Dan had made Hope Haven’s Brueck House his home since 1987.&nbsp; Dan lived, worked, learned, and made great friends with his roommates and wonderful staff over the years at Hope Haven.

Dan’s favorite pastimes were puzzles, games, and socializing with friends.&nbsp; Dan loved the outdoors.&nbsp; He liked to get Dairy Queen and go to the park where he loved the slide and the swings.&nbsp; Dan also enjoyed relaxing in his rocking chair on the patio, watching the birds and squirrels at the feeders in his backyard.&nbsp; Dan also loved listening to Mexican music.&nbsp; Dan will be remembered for his little smile and big hugs.

Dan’s family include his cherished mother, Frances Mendez of Fort Madison; siblings, Ruben (Andrea) Mendez, Jr., of Fort Madison, and Trish (Bill) Rodriguez of Arlington, Wash.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and numerous friends at Hope Haven’s Brueck House.&nbsp; Sadly, Dan is preceded in death by his father, Ruben; and grandparents.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Prugh Funeral Service.

Memorial contributions in Dan’s memory are suggested to Hope Haven’s Brueck Home.
