Jewell “Julie” Bartleson, 99, of Burlington, died Monday, May 13, 2024, at her home in Bickford Cottage.

Born February 9, 1925, in Missouri, she was the daughter of Samuel Luther and Ida Mae Buchanan. She married Wesley Cross, they later divorced. She then married Philip “Farfie” Bartleson on November 18, 1967, in Oquawka, Ill. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2019.

Julie was a homemaker and a former schoolteacher for West Burlington Schools. She was a member of First Congregational Church and a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church. Her faith was the bedrock of everything she did. She was a devoted follower of Christ and was very active with her church, teaching Sunday school, serving and volunteering.

She was an avid seamstress, loved crocheting, was a constant reader and a marvelous artist/painter. She enjoyed camping and traveling and was an excellent cook. She loved to entertain her family. Known as Mammy, she was a devoted grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother and made a point to attend all the activities she could.

She is survived by her loving family.

The funeral service for Mrs. Bartleson will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17 at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Peggy Stott will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her memory for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
