Elijah Leon Reeves, 82, of Morning Sun, died Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born March 4, 1942, in Missouri, he was the son of Clarence and Stella Reeves.

On Aug. 14, 1965, he married Gladys Barred. Elijah worked as a manager for a lumber mill and in construction for many years.

He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, gambling, spending time with his daughters and his grandson, listening to country music and loved playing tricks on people and making them laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Reeves and two daughters, Patti Englehart and Lawanda Reeves all of Morning Sun; one grandson, John James “J.J.” Englehart (Amber Heatherly) of Huntsville, Alabama; one sister, Dorothy Nelson and four brothers, Clinton Reeves, David Reeves, Donald Reeves and Charles Reeves.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Wynn Leon Reeves, son-in-law John Paul Englehart Jr. and three brothers, Benny Reeves, Frankie Reeves and Joseph Reeves.

The memorial funeral service for Elijah will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27 at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
