Don Carlson, 87, of Burlington, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born Aug. 16, 1936, in Burlington, he was the son of John J. and Esther L. Hallgren Carlson. On June 18, 1960, he married Elaine Morger in Burlington. She preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 2001.
He was of Catholic faith. He liked to golf and was a regular member of the Ten O'Clock Golf Group at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison and a former member of Knights of Columbus. He was the co-creator of the Carlson Brothers Best Shot Tournament which ran for five years. He also enjoyed oil painting and socializing.
Survivors are his children, Matt (Nita) Carlson of Burlington, John (Donna) Carlson of Burlington, Arne (Erin) Carlson of Frisco, Texas, and Pete (Melissa) Carlson of Burlington; grandchildren, Derek, Leah, Chris, Dylan, Gunnar, Murphy, Charley, Jackson and Lily; great-grandchildren, Harlee, Olivia, Addy, Finley, and Miles; brother, Johnnie Carlson of Danville; and sister, Jeannie (Richard) Perry of Burlington.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Richard and Roger, and two sisters, Mary Esther Rowan and Carol Stevens.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The Memorial Service for Mr. Carlson will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, at Divine Mercy Parish-SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Fr. Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. Private burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Burlington Notre Dame Teachers' Endowment, Burlington High School General Scholarship Fund and the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
