Marcella Frances Ertz , 97, formerly of Burlington, died in Papillion, Neb., where she had moved about four years ago to be close to her brother and sister-in-law.

Marcella was born at St. Francis Hospital in Burlington to Francis Bernard “Pete” and Mary Jennie Thibedeau Ertz on Aug. 20, 1926.

She graduated from St. Paul’s High School and was a lifetime member of St John’s Catholic Church.  She loved to travel, making many trips as a buyer for Schram’s for over 60 years.  She visited family in many parts of the world, loved to do needlework, read, and watch old movies.

Survivors that mourn her passing are brother Ernest J. (Shirley) Papillion NE; nephews and nieces Jerry Hoenig, Colleen (Darrius) Baker, Tara (Paul) Koestner, Kathy Hoenig, Sarah Hoenig, Michael (Sohee) Ertz, Dan (Heidi) Ertz, Sara Schmidt,  Phil (Daffodil) Schmidt, Mary Schmidt and several great nieces and nephews. 

Preceding her in death are parents, brother Gene (Elinor) and sisters Lorraine (Bernard) Hoenig, Mildred,  Marjorie (Dick) Schmidt, nephews Ken Hoenig, Larry Hoenig, Ron Ertz, Ed Ertz and niece Collette High. 

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. where the family will receive friends Friday, March 1, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Ms. Ertz will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
