
Rollyce "Rollie" Smith, 97, of Mediapolis, died Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.
Born July 18, 1928, he was the son of John and Fern (Mason) Smith. He married Bonnie Sommerfeld in 1947; they later divorced.
Rollie was a lifelong farmer in Yarmouth, Iowa. He was very mechanically inclined and eventually opened Rollie's Bodyshop in downtown Mediapolis. He enjoyed woodworking and was known for the beautiful pieces he produced. Rollie enjoyed being on the water either boating or fishing and enjoyed the peace that it provided. He was a good father and loved his family immensely. Rollie was fun and witty till the end. In his 97 years of life he did everything he wanted to do...and some things that he should not have. Though his charm and spirit will be missed, his memory will remain cherished by all who knew him.
Rollie's family include his daughters, Candy (Dave) Hook and Cindy Phillips; grandchildren, Matt Little, Kecia (Gray) Steelman, and Dusty (Joel) Prottsman; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Kaitlyn, Tyson, Paetyn, and Gavin; and seven great-great grandchildren.
Rollie is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bill Phillips; ex-wife, Bonnie; and his parents, John and Fern.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
There will be no visitation or services per Rollie's wishes.
