Jerry L. Burk, 74, of Burlington, died Friday, July 12, 2024, at his home.

Born June 21, 1950, in Fairfield, he was the son of Otto Frank and Violet Mae Pickett Burk. On April 6, 1978, he married Joyce Arlene Bradshaw in Ottumwa. 

He graduated from Cardinal High School in Eldon in 1968. 

He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from January 29, 1969 until October 8, 1970. He received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, RVN Cross of Gallantry and a Combat Action Ribbon.

Jerry worked for Iowa Malleable and Dexter Foundry.

He enjoyed cutting wood, listening to Rock and Roll, drinking coffee and was an excellent story teller. Most of all, Jerry loved doing anything with his grandchildren. 

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Burk of Burlington; three children, Lora (Laura Mickey) Burk of Burlington, Sarah (Zach) Hamilton of NE, and Bryan (Becky) Burk of SD; six grandchildren, Adam George, Britney Burk, Owen George, Eli Hamilton, Otto Hamilton, and Audrey Mickey-Burk; sister, Vickie Housh of Mt Pleasant and honorary family, Donald Mickey, II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Rex and Phil Burk and sister, Peggy Sempf.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The funeral service for Mr. Burk will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service. 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the VA Hospital in Iowa City.
