James Perry Davis of Washington, Iowa, was born on December 24, 1975, and passed away on December 24, 2025.
He was a son, a brother, an uncle, and a cherished member of his family whose presence will be deeply missed. James will be remembered by those who knew him for the moments of connection he shared and the impact he had on the lives around him. He graduated from Washington High School, Washington, Iowa, and had a lifelong love of camp and the Special Olympics, where he enjoyed community, friendship, and bringing joy to others.
Through his life, James brought awareness to the importance of family connection and advocacy. His circumstances helped shine a light on guardianship laws, and in 2015, legislation was created in his honor that allows family members to petition the court for visitation—an enduring legacy that continues to help families remain connected.
He is survived by his mother, Cindy Davis; his sister, Misty Davis; his nephew, Aiden Davis; along with other loving family members and friends who will continue to carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil E. Davis Jr.
A private time of remembrance was held by his close family. In honoring James’s life, the family asks that he be remembered for his love of Elvis, his ability to always be the light in the room, and the way he brought warmth and laughter to those around him.
Remembered by those who knew and loved him.
