Larry Wayne Hemmie, 78, of Fort Madison, passed away at 6:32 a.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, IA.  He was born on November 7, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant, to Delbert & Daisy Dietsch Hemmie.  He married Julie Ellen Brown on December 31, 1966, in Fort Madison.  He worked at Armour Dial, Fort Madison Daily Democrat, and lastly at Woodroffe Sawmill in Denmark.  He served in the U.S. Army for seven years during the Vietnam War.  He enjoyed watching westerns on T.V., gardening, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.       

Larry is survived by his wife, Julie Hemmie of Fort Madison; one daughter, Brenda (Mark) Bernhardt of Fort Madison; one son, Stephen (Denise) Hemmie of Denmark; six grandchildren, Kayla, Kaci, Karlee, Wesley, Jacob, and Sarah; five great-grandchildren, Ryder, Ivy, Hunter, Remington, and Devyn; one brother, Jerry (Pat) Hemmie of Fort Madison; and one sister, Wanda (James) McGehee of Montrose.  He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two half-brothers & one half-sister.       

A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, with a funeral service to immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Les Featheringill officiating.  A private family burial will be held at Soldiers’ Circle in Oakland Cemetery.  A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.  Online condolences to the Hemmie family may be left at the King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory website: www.kinglynk.com.
