Maxine McNeil, 95, of Middletown died June 15, 2022 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center. 

Born November 26, 1926 at Mercy Hospital in Burlington, she was the daughter or Ray and Ida Maurer Myers. 

Maxine attended schools in Huron, Danville and Winfield. She earned her BA in teaching from Iowa Weslyan College. 

Maxine was a teacher for 14 years at rural schools and then Burlington schools. She retired in 1986. 

On December 4, 1953 Maxine married Keith McNeil at the Middletown Presbyterian Church. 

Maxine was a Cub Scout leader (den mother), she was involved in the PTA. She served as an elder and deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Middletown where she also taught Bible school and Sunday school and sang in the church choir. Maxine was a member of the square dance club- Circle Square B. She entertained at nursing homes and assisted living homes with her husband and sister Marcie by playing the guitar and singing. Maxine enjoyed sewing, canning, quilting, cooking, traveling and spending time with family. 

Survivors include her husband, sons Kenneth Hohmbraker of Danville, IA, Randy (Susan) McNeil of Estes Park, CO; granddaughters Trisha Klaus, Patty Hohmbraker, Wendy (Aaron) Bell, Brianna (Bill) Osusky; grandson Ian (Jen) McNeil; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. 

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Ida Myers, two sisters Arlene Walker and Marcie Noss. 

The funeral service for Maxine will be Monday, June 20, 2022 at 2:00pm at Simple Gatherings (formerly Middletown Presbyterian Church) with Pastor Jay Clover officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00pm before the service. Interment will be at Middletown Cemetery. 
A Memorial has been established for the Diabetes association.
