Donald Robert Manning Sr., 81, of Lomax, Ill., died at 11:57 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, at the Roseville Nursing & Rehabilitation in Roseville, Ill.
Donald was born Sept. 12, 1942, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Robert and Erma Lee Manning. In 1960, he married Ila Harris. They later divorced. In 1973, he married Cheryl Kern. They later divorced.
Donald was raised and educated in the Mount Pleasant and Washington, Iowa areas. He worked all of his life for Woods Construction in Washington, Iowa. Following his retirement, he moved to the Lomax area to be closer to his family.
He enjoyed going to auctions, camping, teasing, and telling jokes, he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons: Don Manning Jr. of Four Madison, and Tim Manning of Lomax; four daughters: Bev (Vince) Nixon of Ainsworth, Barb Manning of Lomax, Connie (Shane Downs) Brockett of Lomax and Lesley Cratton of Burlington; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Leroy Metcalf and Larry Manning and one sister: Kathy Cook.
Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, at Grace Bible Church in Dallas City, Ill. Burial will be held at a later date in Carman Cemetery.
