Carole Sue Sulzberger, 86, of Burlington, died at the Hospice House on Sept. 5, 2024.

Carole Sue was born on May 19, 1938, in Stronghurst, Ill. to Ella B. "Bernie" Sherrill Combites and Clarence Combites, Jr. She was an only child and spent the majority of her happy childhood on the farm with her grandparents. She attended and graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1956. On February 1, 1958, she married Duane Sulzberger of Dallas City, Ill. They had four children: Kevin (Kati) Sulzberger of Topeka, Kansas; Kris McClanahan of Burlington; Kim Covey of Burlington; and Kent (Angela) Sulzberger of Morton, Illinois. She worked as a Girl Friday at the Pentagon and as a Paraclerk at the IAAP for 25 years.

Carole Sue was the epitome of a Christian woman. She served her family with integrity, grace and selflessness. She was always there to offer wisdom, advice or a helping hand. She was passionate about SCC Blackhawks' Boys Basketball and was a member of their booster club. She also enjoyed reading, putting together puzzles, and going on drives through the park to look for deer. She loved a good hot fudge sundae and Gator's fried pickles.

She is survived by her four children; eleven grandchildren, Tony Rose, Tami Breen, Ashley Nichols, Courtney Kruse, Jade Hierstein, Mackenzie Covey, Skylar McClanahan, Shelby Malone, Bryce Sulzberger, Kaylee Sulzberger, Keon Sulzberger, and seventeen great-grandchildren, and also one aunt, Ada Hubbard of Stronghurst, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, her parents, her grandparents, and one grandson, Michael Sulzberger.

Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Funeral Service.
