Larry L. Burch, 84, of Burlington, died Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born June 22, 1940 in Fremont, Iowa, he was the son of Cedrick W. and Lorena Emma Davis Burch Gonterman. He married DeMarris F. “Dee” Leidig on Jan. 25, 1959. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1958. Larry worked for J.I. Case for 33 years. After retirement he was custodian and care taker at West Hill United Methodist Church for 18 years. He also worked at JCPenney and Flint Cliff Manufacturing.

Before retiring, while he was quality control foreman and coordinator, he traveled extensively, having the opportunity to go to Brazil and France J.I. Case plants.

Larry could fix most everything and loved to remodel house and make something out of nothing. He was affectionally known as the Godfather to the Burch younger cousins.

Survivors include his wife DeMarris “Dee” of Burlington; one daughter Stephanie Hawkins of Pleasant View, Tenn.; one son Steven Burch of Gilbert, Ariz.; three grandchildren Zachary and Mathew Burch and Tyler Hawkins; two sisters Jill Phares of Prescott, Ariz. and Candace Burch of Ecuador and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two children Lori Denise and Lary L. Burch Jr, three brothers, his twin brother at birth, Earl Gonterman Jr. and Gary Gonterman.

The service for Larry will be Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Lunning Chapel with Brian Berges officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, July 5, 2024, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Hope Haven Area Development Center.
