James Robert Orth, 40, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec.  27, 2021, at the Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

Born Sept. 8, 1981, in Sigourney, he was the son of Edward R. and Delores R. Juettemeyer Orth.

He graduated from Burlington High School. 

James enjoyed working at Goodwill of the Heartland. 

He was of Catholic faith and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids and Divine Mercy Parish in Burlington. He loved to participate in the Special Olympics, competing in many sports over the past 16 years; his favorites being power lifting and bike racing.

Survivors include three sisters, Angie Walljasper of West Point, Beth Orth of Cedar Rapids, and Cindy DiPrima of Augusta; five brothers, Donald Orth, Daren Orth, Gabe Orth, and Everett Orth, all of Burlington, and Roy "Bubba" Orth of Augusta; and grandmother, Pauline Seaba of Webster, Iowa.

The family will receive friends following a 3 p.m. rosary service until 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. 

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Orth will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. James Flattery as the Celebrant. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the fellowship hall of St. John's Church following the service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established for the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Special Olympics.
