John Thornber Schulte, 87, formerly of Burlington, died Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Symphony of Wimberly in Texas.
Born February 18, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of Walter C. and Gladys S Thornber Schulte.
He attended St Ambrose University and received his bachelor's degree in education. John then received his master's degree in Education and became a special education and resource teacher for the Burlington Area School District. He retired from teaching after 30 years of helping students.
He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. Throughout his life he was involved in many organizations, some include; Concerned Residents as the former President, Park Boards, Burlington Good Earth, Parks, Organic Gardening Club, and a supporter of the Parks and Street Departments.
Survivors include cousin, Theresa (Robert) Clark of Wimberley, Tex., and Brad (Jean) Schulte of Ft Madison; his extended family members and the many friends he had made over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Schulte will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John's cafeteria following burial.
A memorial has been established for Notre Dame High School.
