Daryl Dewayne Ashby, 85, of Burlington, died Friday, March 20, 2026, at the New London Care Center in New London.

Born on September 22, 1940, in Wapello, he was the son of Harry and Dorothy Riley Ashby. He married Marjean Chapman on November 5, 1960. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2009.

Daryl worked for S.S.S. Gray Iron, Standard of Beaverdale, and retired from Design Engineering in 2005.&nbsp;

He loved camping, fishing, and enjoyed spending time on the river. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his wife, and together they traveled extensively throughout the country. He was a NASCAR enthusiast and loved watching the races; he himself had raced cars and motorcycles in his younger years. He was an honest man with a great work ethic and was an exceptionally good father, husband, and brother.

He is survived by his two sons, Tony (Sherry) Ashby and Jerry Ashby and a sister Donna Marie (Tom) Heland.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Dorothy Ashby, his wife Marjean, three brothers, Jim Ashby, Melvin Ashby, and Larry Ashby, and one sister, Linda Sue “Susie” Smith.

The graveside funeral service and interment for Daryl will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
