Virginia M. Orton, 96, of Burlington, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born Jan. 1, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Willie and Pearl Tee Brockway. She married Robert (Bob) Orton on March 8, 1946, in Burlington and he preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 2020.
Virginia was a homemaker and prided herself on being a good cook. Her family always enjoyed her homemade noodles and peanut brittle. For many years she sewed her own clothes and sewed the fabric that her husband used for re-upholstering furniture. Virginia enjoyed camping, fishing, and going to their cabin as well as bowling in several leagues.
She was a lifetime member of Asbury United Methodist church where she served in many church circles. Also, was a lifetime member of the FOE 150 Eagles Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and DAV Auxiliary.
Survivors include three children: Gary (Sue) Orton, Janet (Dan) Snyder, and Alan (Sharon) Orton all of Burlington; four grandchildren, Troy (Mary) Snyder of Chillicothe, Ill.; Denise (Ryan) Machholz of Burlington, Randy Orton of Burlington and Rob (Janel) Orton of West Burlington; Eight great-granddaughters, seven great-great-grandchildren and one niece and two nephews; sister-in-law Judy Pilkington of Gladstone, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years; her parents; one sister Leona Heath; one brother Randy Brockway; nephew Scott Brockway and grandson Chris Orton.
The funeral service for Mrs. Orton will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 at Lunning Chapel. Internment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit the family one hour prior to the service.
Memorials have been established for Asbury United Methodist church, FOE 150 Eagles Auxiliary, and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
