David Keane, former Burlington High School principal, has been selected to become the curriculum and instruction director for the West Burlington Independent School District.

Keane is listed for the position under the personnel agenda item for the West Burlington school board meeting scheduled for Monday, April 4. If approved by the board, he would start the job July 1. The salary for the position is yet to be determined.

In October 2021, Keane was replaced at BHS by interim principal Monica Meyers.

The curriculum and instruction director is a newly-created position for the West Burlington School District. At the Feb. 21 school board meeting, West Burlington superintendent Lisa Beames put forth a request for the new position. After being tabled, the motion for the new position passed 3-2 during a special school board meeting on March 7.

Beames cited the fact that the school district hasn't added a new administrator since 2002, and since that time, enrollment has increased by 190 students and staffing by 12 teachers and nine paraeducators. Funding for the position will come from TLC and general fund dollars.
