Ronald H. Kahl, 90, of Burlington passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at his home.

Ron was born 1931 in Brooklyn, New York He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949. During his 20 years of service, more than half of his stations were overseas, including Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Yugoslavia and Austria. He served 10 years in the Retired Reserves and received his 30 year retirement from President Nixon.

Ron was a Master Mason for over 50 years. He worked after the service as a prison guard and later as a D.O.D. policeman in New Jersey.

He was one of the founding fathers of the Society of Great River Poets. He edited thousands of poems and anthologies, plus hundreds of personal poems, pamphlets and works for other poets. Ron was also a past president of the Iowa Poetry Association. Ron wrote and helped produce a play in the 100 year old opera house in Raritan, IL. Two of his books are in President Clinton's Library collection.

He is survived by his brother Robert, of Florida; two sons, Rudy Kahl of South Carolina and Ron Kahl Jr. of Georgia; three daughters, Alice Kahl and Ann Taylor both of Georgia and Rebecca Stanlick of New Jersey; one granddaughter, Christine; and a tank load of nieces and nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice; second wife, Corinne; parents, older sister and one infant son.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Ron will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
